The tenth session of the World Urban Forum “Cities of opportunities: connecting culture and innovation” opens in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, today. The forum is attended by the Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin.
The tenth World Urban Forum is being held at Abu Dhabi’s National Exhibition Center. It has gathered more than 18000 participants, including about 500 mayors from various cities and municipalities from Europe, Asia, Africa and America. The forum program includes open discussions and plenary sessions to discuss new approaches and methods in the development of municipalities. The session participants will discuss innovative financing vehicles for sustainable cities, urban solutions in housing, mobility, planning and governance, the impact of migration and many other issues.
The World Urban Forum (WUF) was established in 2002 by UN-Habitat to address one of the most pressing issues facing the world today: rapid urbanization and its impact on communities, cities, and the economies. The forum is held every two years.
During the working visit of I. Metshin, a number of business meetings are planned, as well as participation in the round table of Local and Regional Governments “Effective multi-level governance for the implementation of the new urban agenda”. Representatives of local and regional governments will discuss existing coordination framework, explore the potential of joint initiatives, and exchange views on solutions to common problems.
